Why Choose Baby Sleeping Bags?

Why Choose Baby Sleeping Bags?

By Gary Yeardley

Sleep for a baby is very important. They will spend most of their early time asleep and getting a baby a good nights sleep is essential for their wellbeing. To help do this you need to make sure your baby is as comfortable as possible and at the right temperature for the time of year and environment they are sleeping in. Baby sleeping bags are a great way of making sure both of these criteria are met.

They are a safe form of bedding that come in various options. They are more comfortable and safer than blankets and sheets as your baby will fit snuggly in them and they will move with the baby and keep them at a constant temperature throughout the night. Unlike sheets and blankets which can be removed with movement the bag stays around the baby. The bags come in pretty standard shapes tending to be a bag with holes for the arms and shoulder straps to keep them on. They do not have arms as the aim of them is to keep the body at the optimum temperature. They can either have zips around the sleeping bag side and bottom or down the middle. Each way you can open the sleeping bag and place your baby inside before zipping it up.

Baby sleeping bags come in various sizes and tog weightings meaning you have a great range for the age of your baby as well as the temperature and time of year. They tend to come in sizes, 0-6 months, 6-18 months and 18-36 months and the tog ratings come in 0.5 tog, 1.0 tog and 2.5 tog. The 2.5 tog is ideal for all year round temperatures and will keep your baby comfortable between 10-20 degrees Celsius. he 1.0 tog is generally for summer months and are optimum for temperatures between 21-23 degrees Celsius. The 0.5 tog is really for heat waves and are suitable for room temperatures of 24-27 degrees Celsius. The tog rating is a European standard and is the same standard as used with duvets.

The great thing about baby sleeping bags is that you can put your baby to sleep in a variety of clothing options to match the temperature while using the standard 2.5 tog sleeping bag. For example you could put your baby to sleep in just a vest if it is warmer or maybe a vest and sleepsuit if it is colder but the 2.5 tog baby sleeping bag will remain a constant. All babies are different so you will learn what to put them in within the baby sleeping bag. A good way to monitor the temperature of a baby while sleeping is to feel their chest. Babies hands are often cold no matter how warm or cold their body temperature is.

So now you have a guide to the range of type of baby sleeping bag you can look at the styles and colours available. Baby sleeping bags come in many different designs, some suitable for boys or girls or some generic to suit either.
