What Are The Top 5 Supplements

What are the Top Five Supplements?

The New Year brings out many television commercials promoting weight loss, healthy skin and great well being through supplements. Is that really the best way to improve your health? As you are aware, getting your nutritional needs met through whole food is the best way for your body to absorb necessary vitamins, minerals, and of course carbohydrates, fats and protein. We certainly do not recommend taking bags of supplements a day. There are a few supplements we do recommend, here are my favorites.

So, let’s get into my favorite Top Five Supplements:

1. Omega-3 EPA/DHA: Great daily supplement that decreases inflammation in our bodies. Also found in Tuna, salmon, walnuts and almonds… also flax seeds. This is a great supplement for people who do not eat fish. Or people who are worried about the mercury content that is found in Tuna.

2. Multi-Vitamin: Remember I don’t like taking a bag full of supplements, so a potent multi-vitamin packs a strong punch.

3. Glucosamine/Chondrotin: Great when combined with Omega 3’s. Glucosamine/Chondrotin helps with mild joint pain and repairs cartilage. If you have joint problems, then this will help. Take them together in a combined supplement.

4. Whey protein: As you know, it is essential to eat protein with every meal, because protein keeps your blood sugar steady and keeps you feeling full. It’s hard to eat protein all day, so whey protein smoothies mixed with frozen blueberries hits the spot. Also, critical if you are recovering from an injury, the protein helps build muscle and helps repair connective tissue.

5. Coffee/Caffeine: Why, because caffeine is a mental stimulant helps with pain and increases metabolism. Just don’t add all the cream and sugar. It’s easy once you understand what supplements can do. The problem is picking a reliable brand to meet your needs. Think of supplements like diamonds, their can be a wide variety in quality, yet when you look at a diamond at first glance you really can’t tell the difference.

How do you tell? Well you can’t look at supplements under a microscope like they do diamonds. You can rely on independent third party sources like consumerlab.com. They are a company that checks out supplements to see if supplement claims are indeed true. Also a trusted advisor is invaluable, when it comes to information about supplements. That advisor should have over 100 hours studying nutrition and how to use nutrition to aid in healing.
